Crispy Smash Burger Tofu
Grated tofu seasoned with smoky spices and smashed crispy in a hot skillet for irresistible golden edges. A fun, allergy-friendly take on burger night that the whole family will love.
Ingredients
- 16 oz extra-firm tofu, pressed very well
- 1 3/4 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 3/4 tsp garlic powder
- 3/4 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 to 1/2 tsp black pepper (your preference)
- 1 1/2 tbsp oil (mixed in)
- 2-3 tbsp oil for pan
Instructions
- 1Press and grate the tofu
Press the tofu well for at least 20-30 minutes. Pat completely dry. Grate tofu using the large holes of a box grater.
- 2Season the tofu
In a bowl, gently toss with soy sauce, maple syrup, spices, and 1 tbsp oil. It should be lightly coated, not wet.
- 3Smash and crisp
Heat oil in a cast iron skillet over medium-high until shimmering. Add about 3/4 cup of tofu to the pan. Immediately smash thin with a spatula. Cook undisturbed for 6-8 minutes until deeply golden and crispy.
- 4Flip and serve
Flip carefully and cook 3-4 more minutes. Serve immediately on buns with your favorite safe toppings.
